Few Reasons to Protest This God and King

The set for Jean-Pierre Ponnelle’s 1982 production of
Mozart’s “Idomeneo” at the Metropolitan Opera is dominated by a huge detached head of a god. But the god in question is Neptune, who does not appear to have much of a constituency in New York these days.
