Gramophone names Dudamel Artist of the Year

Gramophone, the respected British classical music magazine, has named Gustavo Dudamel its 2011 Gramophone Artist of the Year. Past recipients of the award include Yo-Yo Ma, Michael Tilson Thomas, Riccardo Chailly, Cecilia Bartoli and Antonio Pappano, to name only a few. The announcement was made at the Gramophone Awards in London on October 6. While Dudamel could not be present to accept the award in person, he recorded a video thanking the publication and the public for their support.

Dudamel and Bolívars perform concerts inZurichMilan, and Rome

Following a successful tour of Europe this past summer, Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela return toEurope this autumn to perform concerts at Zurich's Opernhaus (November 20), Milan's Teatro alla Scala (November 21), and Rome's Santa Cecilia (November 23). The program for these three concerts includes Beethoven's "Eroica" Symphony, Ravel's Daphnis & Chloe, and Stravinsky's Firebird Suite.


Dudamel returns to Tel Aviv to conduct theIsrael Philharmonic Orchestra

This season Dudamel returns to Tel Aviv to conduct the Israel Philharmonic in a series of concerts to be held in the unique setting of the Tel Aviv airport's Hangar 11, the temporary home of the IPO during renovations at the Mann Auditorium. Dudamel has enjoyed a long association with the IPO, having conducted the orchestra many times in Israel and on tour. For these concerts, Dudamel conducts Brahms' Haydn Variations and Mendelssohn's "Scottish" Symphony and is joined by the renowned pianist Rudolf Buchbinder for Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 25. For a special late-night "IPO in Jeans" concert on December 1, Dudamel leads the orchestra in waltzes and polkas by Johann Strauss.
