Elbphilharmonie LIVE | NDR Opening Night 2017

Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, the »Moonlight« Sonata, the Ode to Joy – these are pieces that every child knows. But what about his score to Goethe’s tragedy »Egmont«?

The first Opening Night of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester in its new home: this time the opening of the season is devoted entirely to a true musical hero – Ludwig van Beethoven. Principal conductor Thomas Hengelbrock blows the dust off Beethoven’s incidental music to Goethe’s »Egmont« and presents the rarely-heard masterpiece in a newly-designed, half-scenic version featuring the actor Klaus Maria Brandauer.
