Multifaceted Swiss conductor Silvio Varviso, who served as music director of the of the Wörttemberg State Opera, Basel Opera, Stuttgart State Theater, Stockholm Royal Opera and the Opéra National de Paris — in addition to regularly conducting at many of the world's most prestigious opera houses for more than three decades — has died at the age of eighty-two.
