Dudamel conducts Bizet's Carmen at La Scala

Dudamel conducting At the end of October, Gustavo Dudamel returns to Milan's Teatro alla Scala - where he has previously conducted performances of Don Giovanni and La bohème - to preside over a production of Carmen. Earlier this year, Dudamel led the LA Phil in performances of Bizet's beloved work at the Hollywood Bowl in his North American opera debut. The nine-performance run begins on October 29 and ends on November 18.Click here for more information and to purchase tickets


Celebración: 2010/11 LA Phil season begins with gala concert led by Dudamel

Dudamel and FlorezGustavo Dudamel began his second season as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic with a program of sparkling Rossini arias and overtures and popular Latin American canciones. The guest soloist on hand for the October 7 gala concert was the Peruvian tenor and close friend of Gustavo, Juan Diego Flórez. The performance was broadcast live on Classical KUSC and NPR.

The following evening, Dudamel began a three-performance run of concerts with the LA Phil and pianist Emmanuel Ax, performing works by Beethoven, Schumann and Weber. Last week, Dudamel led the LA Phil in four performances of Messiaen's 
Turangalila Symphonie with the LA Phil, featuring Jean-Yves Thibaudet on piano and Cynthia Millar on a rarely-heard instrument, the Ondes Martenot.Click here for photos from opening night


LA Times Round Table discussion with Dudamel and Domingo
Domingo and DudamelLos Angeles Times music critic Mark Swed recently hosted the first joint appearance of Dudamel and LA Opera General Director and legendary tenor Plácido Domingo for a discussion about the arts in LA. Over the course of the evening, which was held in the Grand Hall of Dorothy Chandler Pavillion, Dudamel and Domingo spoke about their lives as leaders of the two major classical music institutions in LA, as well as their love of the city and its residents. They also answered questions submitted online by members of the public, and promised a more formal collaboration on stage in the future.Click here to read more about the discussion
