APRIL E-NEWSLETTER LATIN AMERICAN TOUR WITH BOLÍVARS This week, Gustavo Dudamel reunites with the the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela for a tour across Latin America. They bring their passionate music-making to the Teatro Colón in Bueno Aires (April 3), Sala São Paolo in São Paolo (April 6 & 7), Brasília's Teatro Nacional (April 9), and Bogotá's Opera House (April 11). While on tour, Gustavo will lead the Bolívars in two orchestral tours de force: Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Revueltas's La Noche de los Mayas - both of which can be heard on Gustavo and the Bolívars' Deutsche Grammophon album. For their concerts in São Paolo, Gustavo and the Bolívars will pair Stravinsky's Rite of Spring with Beethoven's mighty Fifth Symphony. NEW DVD: THE EUROPEAN CONCERT WITH BERLINER PHILHARMONIKER Last year, Gustavo Dudamel was invited by the Berliner Philharmoniker to celebrate the ensemble’s 129th birthday in its traditional birthday concert, which took place at the magnificent Spanische Hofreitschule in Vienna. Gustavo and the Berliner Philharmoniker, joined by cellist Gautier Capuçon, performed a program featuring Brahms's Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Haydn's Cello Concerto in C with guest soloist Gautier Capuçon, and Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Pre-order the DVD here. THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO WITH LA PHIL Next month, Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic present the second installment of their Mozart/DaPonte trilogy withThe Marriage of Figaro. Staged by director Christopher Alden, this distinctive visual setting of Mozart's comedy features a stellar international cast, sets by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean-Nouvel, and costumes by couturier Azzedine Alaïa.
