The Gramophone Player opens with an excerpt from the June issue’s Recording of the Month: Berlioz's Les nuits d'été and La mort de Cléopatrewith mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Robin Ticciati (Linn Records). Also included are cellist Emmanuelle Bertrand playing Shostakovich (Harmonia Mundi), violinist Augustin Dumay and pianist Louis Lortie performing Strauss (Onyx), pianist Simon Trpčeski in a live recording from the Wigmore Hall (Wigmore Hall Live), and the much-missed Sir Colin Davis in one of his final Berlioz recordings – the Grande Messe des morts (LSO Live).

Gramophone Hall of Fame 2013 announced!
Last year we launched the Gramophone Hall of Fame to celebrate those performers, producers, engineers and label executives whose contributions to classical music recording have proved most influential and inspiring. We ran a vote on the Gramophone website to help select 50 new names for 2013 and you can now read the results. Each new member's entry comes complete with a video, a classic article from the Gramophone Archive and a recommended recording.
